What is oily dandruff?
The scalp can suffer from various disorders linked to excess sebum production, one of which is caused by the presence of Pityrosporum ovale yeast on the scalp. This is a type of lipophilic fungus that belongs to the natural flora of our skin, related to the Malassezia fungus and seborrheic dermatitis, and produces a yellow-gold plaque that is very adherent and difficult to remove, causing inflammation, redness and itching.
It is important to note that the edges of the plaque are very well defined, which helps us to differentiate pityriasis steatoides from dermatitis.
