Dry hair

Dry hair seems to be less common than oily hair, but it is also common and can occur in varying degrees. We can talk about a dry scalp, dry hair shaft and/or dry ends, all of which have determining factors and specific products that help to properly moisturise them. 

Having a dry scalp leads to hair shafts and ends that are more prone to dryness, brittleness and frizziness due to a lack of sebum production in the sebaceous glands of our follicles. 

There are many factors that contribute to dry hair. Internally, the hormonal system can be a cause: hormonal changes, drops in oestrogen, hyperthyroidism, among others. Some medications related to high blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as poor diet and lack of hydration, can worsen the symptoms. 

External factors also cause excessive dryness in our hair, such as washing with products that are unsuitable for our scalp type, excessively hot water in the shower, excessive use of inappropriate chemical treatments, or continuous use of heat styling tools without protection (straighteners, curling irons, hair dryers, etc.). Environmental factors are also noteworthy, especially during seasonal changes, as both the cold of winter and the sun of summer can affect our hair.  

Drinking enough water, eating a balanced diet, using appropriate products and heat protectors can greatly help to improve dry hair.
