Diffuse alopecia
What is postpartum diffuse alopecia?
Among the stages of hormonal changes in women, the postpartum stage stands out for the major revolution it represents.
Excessive hair loss, loss of shine, loss of density... are much more common in the postpartum period. After birth, the body begins a process of recovery and repositioning, as does the hormonal system, which prepares for the new stage and breastfeeding. This process involves a significant drop in oestrogen, which causes the growth phase (anagen phase) that the follicles have remained in during pregnancy to be precipitated and move into the shedding phase (telogen phase). As this transition is widespread in practically all follicles, it gives us the impression that hair loss is excessive.
Postpartum hair loss is a natural and reversible process. Once our hormonal system stabilises, so do the follicles, which return to their natural cycle.

Recommendations:
If you are breastfeeding, we advise, as we do during pregnancy, not to use vitamin lotions due to the use of Retinyl Palmitate, a form of Vitamin A, which should not be taken in excess. Although it has low penetration beyond the skin, meaning that it hardly reaches the bloodstream and that all its action takes place in the layers of the skin, excess intake is not considered safe.
In the event of excessive hair loss, if you are breastfeeding, we do not recommend using vitamin lotions and we recommend consulting the section on Hair loss during pregnancy.
In the event of hair loss without breastfeeding during the postpartum period, we can recommend treatment with vitamin lotion to strengthen new hair.
