Diffuse thyroid alopecia
What is diffuse thyroid alopecia?
Hormones are key to our health, and any type of hormonal imbalance can cause changes in our body. Hair is often a major receptor of these changes, as it affects hair density in most cases and can lead to diffuse alopecia, known as thyroid alopecia.
When faced with a loss of hair density, excessively dry hair or excessively oily roots, it is essential to ask whether you are suffering from any thyroid-related disease.
The thyroid gland is extremely important for the proper functioning of the body. Broadly speaking, it is responsible for producing the hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which regulate our metabolism and energy use. They are therefore essential for the entire body.

Main causes:
A disturbance in this hormone production (TSH) or in its conversion from T4 to T3 can lead to hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. The functioning of the thyroid gland is very complex and has many functions and disorders that must be diagnosed and treated by an endocrinologist.
At the hair level, we recommend treatment to alleviate the effects on the hair, which are usually significant loss of hair density, especially in the frontal area. Lack of shine and dryness are more common in people with hyperthyroidism, while those with hypothyroidism tend to have seborrheic and suffocated roots.
